NC State outlines football bonus structure, coach Dave Doeren eligible for $1.35 million (Dave Doeren)

Dave Doeren can earn just as much bonus money for an ACC Championship as he can if he leads his North Carolina State program to the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff -- $200,000 -- with an overall cap of $1.35 million.

Those figures and more were revealed Monday, first by Brian Murphy, an Raleigh, N.C., investigative sports reporter.

Preparing for his 12th season atop the Wolfpack program, Doeren has guided NC State to winning campaigns in nine of his first 11 years at the helm.

Per terms revealed by NC State officials, Doeren can earn up to $200,000 for an ACC title and the same figure for advancing to the CFP quarterfinals.

Individual assistant coaches under Doeren at NC State can earn up to $180,000 in bonus incentives.

While on-the-field goals represent a significant part of the Wolfpack bonus pool, Doeren and his assistant also can earn substantial extra pay via NC State's classroom performance. including up to $100,000 for Doeren for a top federal graduation rate, the same six figures for graduation success rate and then another $100,000 for a perfect APR (Academic Progress Rate).

Doeren's three highest-paid bonus markers include $250,000 for an 12-win season, $300,000 for a CFP title-game slot and $500,000 if the Wolfpack capture the CFP national championship.

Signed through at least four more seasons, Doeren has been elevated to a contract at NC State that pays him well more than $5 million annually.

Defensive coordinator Tony Gibson was rewarded last December with a lucrative new three-year pact that elevated Gibson to approximately $1.5 million per year in annual value.

NC State opens its 2024 season Thursday, Aug. 29, at home against Western Carolina; the Wolfpack face Tennessee Sept. 7 in Charlotte, N.C.
