Mike Tomlin is expected to announce he will return to coach the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, according to a tweet Tuesday from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
Tomlin has famously not suffered a losing season in his 17 years with the team, an NFL record, but the Steelers have also not seriously contended for the AFC championship in some time, either.
Pittsburgh last advanced past the Wild Card round in 2017 when, as the No. 2 seed in the AFC, they were upset at home by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Steelers last reached the AFC Championship in 2016, and last appeared in the Super Bowl in the 2010 season. Pittsburgh won Super Bowl XLIII in Tomlin's second year on the job.
With Bill Belichick out in New England, Tomlin, still only 51, is the longest-tenured head coach in the NFL.
When asked about entering the final year of his contract following Pittsburgh's Wild Card loss to Buffalo on Monday, Tomlin walked out of the press conference.
