Despite speculation following another disappointing early playoff exit, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones shares tonight that Mike McCarthy will return to lead the Dallas Cowboys in 2024.
The Cowboys have had success under Mike McCarthy the past three regular seasons, and ended the 2023 season with the top scoring offense in the league.
However, the Cowboys have continued to underperform in the playoffs each postseason.
In 2021 and 2022 they lost to the 49ers, first in the NFC Wild Card game and then the NFC Divisional game.
Earlier this week they got behind by a couple touchdowns quickly and fell to the Green Bay Packers 48-32.
"I believe this team is very close and capable of achieving our ultimate goals and the best step forward for us will be with Mike McCarthy as our head coach. There is great benefit to continuing the team's progress under Mike's leadership as our head coach," Jerry Jones shared in a statement.
McCarthy has led the team to three straight 12-5 seasons.
He is also entering the final year of his contract, which in most cases would be anything but normal.
However, not in Dallas as Jerry Jones allowed former head coach Jason Garrett to coach the team in the final year of his contract before parting ways with him after the 2019 season.
McCarthy enters this fall with a 42-25 overall record with the organization.
