The dynamic duo that helped propel Washington to new heights and a national title game appearance are reuniting.
Kalen DeBoer is bringing former Seahawks offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb to Tuscaloosa to serve as the Tide's new offensive play caller.
Grubb, a finalist for the 2023 FootballScoop Coordinator of the Year award, had joined DeBoer's inaugural staff in Tuscaloosa before the opportunity to return to Seattle and call an NFL offense presented itself.
Unfortunately, Grubb's opportunity to call plays for the Seahawks lasted just one season, as first-year head coach Mike Macdonald opted to make a change at offensive coordinator in early January.
That's when whispers of DeBoer and Grubb reunited started to pick up.
With Nick Sheridan calling the plays this past season, the Tide ranked 22nd in scoring offense, 47th in rushing, and 56th in passing during an up and down year where the Tide finished 9-4. Sheridan is expected to remain on staff.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Grubb will call the offense moving forward.
With a relationship that goes back decades, Grubb and DeBoer have worked together at a number of spots with an excellent track record of record-setting offenses.
