Jeff Lebby and Mississippi State reportedly adding veteran head coach to staff (Mike MacIntyre)

Just a few seasons ago Mike MacIntyre spent a season in the SEC as the defensive coordinator at Ole Miss.

Now the veteran college head coach who has led three different programs is reportedly heading back to Mississippi to join the staff of rival Mississippi State.

ESPN reports today that MacIntyre is joining Jeff Lebby's staff in Starkville.

His role with the Bullogs will be as a defensive analyst.

The position marks MacIntyre's landing spot after being let go at FIU following a third-straight 4-8 season.

In addition to FIU, MacIntyre also served as the head coach at San Jose State, where he quickly rebuilt the Spartans from a 1-12 debut season to a 10-2 season by year two.

That led to the head coaching opportunity at Colorado, where he led the Buffs from 2013-2018 to a 30-44 overall record, highlighted by a 10-4 season in 2016.

In Starkville, MacIntyre will bring rare experience coaching on both sides of the ball in the SEC. In addition to coordinating the defense for the Rebels, he served a few seasons on offense coaching the receivers coach for the program in 1999-2000.

He will help Lebby and the defensive staff rebound from a year where they gave up over 34 points per game, ranking 118th nationally.
