While it seems like just about everyone if a fan of pre-Saturday MACtion, you won't find many high school coaches that have been fans of college football's move to having games on Friday nights.
Friday night lights and high school football are synonymous with one another, and that will be the case nearly everywhere this fall with the exception of one Friday night in The Peach State.
To avoid a conflict with the Georgia and Georgia Tech on November 29th, the Georgia High School Association has decided to plop a bye week in their playoffs and bump the semifinals and state finals back a weekend.
The playoff dates will now take place with an opening week of November 8th and 9th, with two subsequent weeks to follow before a bye week break during Thanksgiving week.
The semifinals will take place December 6th, with the state finals set to take place December 16th-18th (which is a total of five days later than last season).
Moving the games back also prevents an issue with the SEC title game, set to take place at Mercedes-Benz Staidum on December 7th.
The move is publicly being applauded as it give each level ample time in the spotlight in a football-crazed state, but it will come as no surprise to our audience that the high school coaches in the state are less than pleased with the newly planned break during a potential playoff run.
On the flip side of the coin, Kirby Smart and Brent Key and their respective staffs will enjoy not having to miss any high school action and recruiting opportunities during some really big in-state matchups.
The in-state rivalry tilt between the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets will take place in Athens and will be aired on ABC.
It will be Georgia's first game on a Friday. night since the mid-90's, and they join fellow Ole Miss and Mississippi State as the Prime Time matchups of Black Friday's new slate.
