It's been eight years since Colorado football has qualified for postseason play, way back in 2016 when Deion Sanders was barely a decade removed from his own playing days and coaching high school and youth football down in Texas.
Late Saturday, Coach Prime's second Colorado football team secured its sixth win of the season -- and coveted bowl eligibility in the process -- with an 34-23 win against visiting Big 12 Conference foe Cincinnati.
But Deion Sanders, open about that landmark being among his Buffaloes' goals this season, didn't overemphasize the moment.
"It's cute," said Sanders, who revealed postgame that Colorado intended to present a game ball to 99-year-old Buffs super-fan Peggy Coppom. "It really is. Because we really want that. But, that's not all we're after.
"That's one of the hurdles that we're jumping over, that we're going over. That's a tremendous hurdle, that we're happy, we're excited. But, that's not the end goal for us. That's the beginning, but we are thankful and appreciative that the hard work is going noticed."
Colorado remains just behind Big 12 leaders BYU and Iowa State, both of whom are undefeated on the season as well as in conference play.
The Buffaloes, who matched the program's last bowl team by securing a sixth win on the fourth weekend of October, are perhaps capable of winning out -- another item Deion Sanders alluded to last week.
Colorado visits Texas Tech this week, hosts Utah a week later, faces Kansas in Kansas City and then wraps its regular season at home against Oklahoma State.
Buffaloes star quarterback Shedeur Sanders continued his remarkable efficiency in the latest win; he completed 25 of 30 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns.
For the season, he now has completed 220 of 300 passes for 2,591 yards and 21 touchdowns against six interceptions.
Deion Sanders did not let his son's latest masterpiece go unmentioned.
"He's so darn good that we don't give him the credit that he deserves for some of the things that he does," Deion Sanders said. "See, you don't even know that stuff because you're into the game and you're coaching, you don't even think about that kind of stuff.
"I remember, I think he did that one time in Jackson (at FCS program Jackson State prior to the family's arrival at Colorado), that he was phenomenal like that. But, wow.
"And they (don't) mention him for the Heisman (Trophy). He's not even mentioned. Oh, my bad. He's my son."
