Sonny Dykes and TCU have agreed upon a new contract of undisclosed length and value, according to multiple reports on Friday. Dykes had been under contract through 2028 at $7 million a year.
Dykes has led the Horned Frogs to a Big 12-best 36 wins since taking the job in 2022, with the obvious caveat that 13 of those wins came in his debut season of '22.
TCU stumbled to a 5-7 encore of their Cinderella run to the 2022 College Football Playoff title game, but Dykes has stabilized things over the past two seasons. The Horned Frogs went a good-not-great 9-4 in 2024 and '25. Both seasons saw TCU win bowl games and finish above .500 in Big 12 play, but in neither season did Dykes's club seriously contend for the Big 12 championship.
Along with the rest of the Big 12, TCU was overtaken by the Texas Tech juggernaut in 2025, and the Horned Frogs will join the rest of the league in trying to run down the Red Raiders this fall. TCU will look to improve upon last season's 9-4 finish despite losing starting quarterback Josh Hoover to defending national champion Indiana, a loss Dykes brushed off recently by pointing out Hoover turned the ball over 42 times in his 31 starts. TCU will likely start redshirt freshman Adam Schoebel at quarterback this fall.
Dykes is 107-80 in 15 seasons as a head coach, spread across four universities. His teams have won eight or more games eight times, but the 2011 WAC title at Louisiana Tech remains his only conference championship.
