Judge dismisses Brenda Tracy lawsuit against former Michigan State coach Mel Tucker (Mel Tucker Brenda Tracy)

An Ingham County (Mich.) judge has dismissed Brenda Tracy's lawsuit against former Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker.

Tracy sued Tucker on nine counts stemming from a 2022 phone call in which Tracy claimed Tucker sexually harassed her.

“Speechless. He said it’s the best news he’s gotten in two and a half years. I’m super happy for him. And, you know, a guy who deserves a break. And I’m not saying he got a break today, but, you know, it’s going to be," Tucker's attorney Andrew Abood told WILX-TV in Michigan. "Hopefully, it’s going to be good for him."

Tracy's attorney told the station that he will consider an appeal. A separate lawsuit brought by Tracy against Tucker remains under consideration by the Michigan Court of Appeals, per WILX

The lawsuit was filed in October 2024, more than a year after Michigan State fired Tucker following Tracy's allegations against Tucker going public. Tucker had hired Tracy to speak to the Spartans football team about her experience as a rape survivor. Tracy claimed Tucker pursued her romantically and pleasured himself without Tracy's consent while on a phone call with her. Tucker has denied all allegations.

Tucker has since sued Michigan State for wrongful termination, seeking the roughly $75 million due to him as part of the 10-year, $95 million contract he signed in November 2021 after a 9-1 start to that season.

Complicating that pursuit, Tucker and several assistants were hit with "show-cause" penalties by the NCAA in November after Michigan State played ineligible players under Tucker's watch. The Spartans were forced to vacate all wins from the 2022 and '23 seasons.

Tucker, 54, has not coached since the 2023 season.
