FCS head coach blasts SEC "hypocrisy," calls out league for tampering (Featured)

The stern language was one thing.

Hearing talks of rugged enforcement ... or else from an Southeastern Conference institution's president?

That, that was more than Frank Scelfo could read and not voice what he says to know firsthand.

On the heels of University of Georgia President Jere Morehead's statement Wednesday that, "If the CSC (College Sports Commission) is not going to enforce the settlement, if the NCAA is not going to enforce tampering and if Congress is not going to pass the SCORE Act, then it leaves the SEC in a position that we have to go our own way to create the rules."

Scelfo, a coaching veteran who's worked in the NFL as well as Power Conference college football in a career spanning more than four decades, blasted Morehead's comments. He directly called out Morehead as well as Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey by name.

He then revealed allegations that an SEC general manager had illicitly contacted one of Scelfo's players at Football Championship Subdivision program Southeastern Louisiana -- a player Scelfo emphasized was not entered into the NCAA Transfer Portal.

"Hey President Moorhead (sic), why don’t you and Commissioner Sankey start by enforcing yourselves. LionUp Football had an SEC GM contact one of my players last (Wednesday) night, who wasn’t in the portal, to tell him to get into the portal. Take care of your own yard! #Hypocrites #BrokenSystem," Scelfo posted on X, formerly Twitter, early Wednesday.

Scelfo's public comments match what multiple coaches expressed to FootballScoop this past week as a rampant problem in the sport, with one Group of Five head coach directly telling an employee at an SEC school that his school's general manager had tampered with the head coach's roster this month.

In the past seven years atop the Southeastern Louisiana program, Scelfo has guided the Lions to four FCS Playoffs berth including a nine-win 2025 campaign.

The NCAA moved to a single-window Transfer Portal this year for the first time; it opened Jan. 2 and closes at midnight Friday.

At this week's AFCA FBS head coaches meeting, the sport's top-division coaches agreed to support keeping a single-window Transfer Portal for the upcoming 2026 season with virtually identical dates for the Portal in January 2027.
