The 21-year tenure of Mike Gundy came to an end in September following a surprising loss to Tulsa.
Gundy was the second-longest tenured head coach in college football. His contract calls for a buyout of $15 million.
The Cowboys did not have to look long, or far for their new leader, tabbing North Texas head coach Eric Morris.
Morris led the Mean Green to an 11-2 season with a quarterback leading the way that no one had heard of at the start of the season. He previously had success at Incarnate Word, winning ten games with the Cardinals in 2021 before returning to the FBS ranks as the offensive coordinator at Washington State for a season.
At just 40 years old, Morris is known across college football for his work with quarterbacks that include Cam Ward (Incarnate Word and Wazzu), and Patrick Mahones (Texas Tech).
