Meet the most interesting man in college football today - Vince Kehres (Vince Kehres)

In seven seasons as head coach at his alma mater, Mount Union, Vince Kehres went 95-6, winning the National Championship in 2015 and '17.

Ninety-five and six.

On top of the two he won as head coach, the seven as an assistant coach at Mount Union, Kehres also won two National Championships as a player for the Purple Raiders.

After 20 seasons coaching at The Mount, Kehres decided it was time to move up to FBS, becoming defensive coordinator for former Mount Union player Jason Candle at Toledo.

Toledo's defensive play-caller the past six seasons, Kehres this year has arguably curated his best Rockets unit to date. Toledo closed the regular season ranked No. 2 nationally in total defense at 240.9 yards per game and No. 5 nationally in scoring defense at 13 points per game.

The Rockets closed the season on a four-game winning streak which boosted them to eight wins overall and, at 6-2 in Mid-American Conference play, just missed a spot in the MAC Championship game this weekend.

Toledo surrendered just 18 total points to four opponents in its season-closing winning streak.

This season's defense was described by an opposing coach as "a well coached, nasty bunch."

Now, with Candle accepting the head coaching position at UConn, Kehres finds himself in a very interesting position, quite possibly the most interesting in college football right now.

Toledo AD Bryan Blair has made it known to folks within Toledo athletics they would like to retain Kehres; but it remains to be seen whether this is just a "we have our man already, I'm gonna go ahead and make this happen" or if they are planning a "national search in which Coach Kehres will be considered."

Big decision for Toledo and one that likely impacts whether or not they retain Kehres.

The reason I say that, is because based on the coach he is, and the performance of his units on the field, Kehres has fielded significant interest from other head coaches about joining their programs as defensive coordinator. Currently, Syracuse, Nebraska, UConn and another ACC program are all waiting for an answer from Kehres, several sources tell FootballScoop.

Four or five offers; difficult decisions to be made and potentially taking a job outside of the state of Ohio for the first time in his life.

Ladies and gentlemen, it's quite possible Vince Kehres is the most interesting man in college football today.

Saturday afternoon update> ESPN reports Kehres has opted to become defensive coordinator at Syracuse over the other offers on the table. Sources tell FootballScoop Fran Brown stepped up today to get this deal done. Sources tell FootballScoop Kehres would love to bring Toledo co-defensive coordinator Ross Watson as well; but he may have competition as Jason Candle would also like to bring Watson to UConn. Stay tuned...
