Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss squad absolutely smoked Georgia last season in Oxford, Mississippi, and then earlier this week Kiffin did the same thing to Kirby Smart in a press-conference setting.
Asked about how animated both he and Smart are on the sidelines week in and week out and what that might do for burning calories, Kiffin rhetorically asked about how many calories Smart might actually be burning since Kiffin didn't see much evidence of it when he had viewed Smart's press conference.
Ouch. Also, Kiffin stays Kiffin. College football's best personality also probably is the game's best offensive mind. He's unequivocally in the discussion.
Will it matter this weekend 'Between the Hedges' in Athens, Georgia, where the host Bulldogs are more than a touchdown favorite?
This is a save-the-season, flag-planting moment for Smart & Co. No, this Georgia team isn't as deep or talented as its national championship predecessors earlier this decade, but it's not losing two games at home before Halloween under Smart.
Is it?
Elsewhere, Notre Dame hosts USC in an intersectional rivalry tilt with a century of history but a mildly uncertain future. This is the last currently contracted meeting between the Fighting Irish and Trojans; more importantly, it's Notre Dame's last chance to save its season.
After losing its opening two games at Miami and home in the final seconds to Texas A&M, Notre Dame has uncorked four consecutive wins. It must get to five, before an open date leads the program into November, to keep hopes of a return trip to the College Football Playoff -- and therefore the program's first-ever consecutive CFP berths -- alive.
USC, meanwhile, is getting elite offensive play, particularly from do-everything wideout Makai Lemon.
The weather forecast for Saturday in South Bend, Indiana, looks considerably rainy. That favors the Irish, who don't have starting center Ashton Craig.
They do have homefield advantage, and rain probably aids the Irish cause. Otherwise? Watch the matchup of USC head coach Lincoln Riley, like Kiffin in that discussion among the sport's top offensive minds, against first-year Notre Dame defensive coordinator Chris Ash.
Notre Dame has held the opposition scoreless in eight of its last 10 quarters. Just holding USC scoreless in a couple should be enough this weekend for Notre Dame.
Will the Irish get it done? Does Tennessee have a shot to win at Alabama for the first time since 2003?
Yes, yes it does. Joey Aguilar at quarterback gives the Vols a much better chance than would have Nico Iamaleava. But this game is time for Tim Banks to earn his money. He's paid like an elite college defensive coordinator.
But where are the results?
We also discuss the 'Holy War,' aka undefeated BYU hosting one-loss Utah, and LSU visiting Diego Paviabilt, err, Vanderbilt.
