UCLA's all-in investment in football continues.
Late Thursday, Chris Foster of the Los Angeles Times reported UCLA would reward Jim Mora's staff with a collective raise from $2.442 million in 2013 to $3.620 million in 2014, plus an extra $439,000 in signing and retention bonuses.
Offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone is the biggest gainer, leaping from $375,000 to $654,500 in base salary, plus a $100,000 signing bonus. Mazzone is also eligible for retention bonuses of $62,250 should he remain in Westwood through Jan. 1, 2015 and June 30, 2015. He will again be eligible for retention bonuses on Jan. 1, 2016 and June 30, 2016, this time at $165,000 apiece. Add it all up, and Mazzone can collect $1.863 million over the next 25 months.
Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, promoted from linebackers coach over the winter, signed a two-year contract alongside Mazzone. He will earn $475,000 in 2014 and $500,000 in 2015.
The rest of the staff breaks out as follows:
- Adrian Klemm, offensive line: $660,000 in 2014 and $760,000. No signing or retention bonuses were reported. Klemm's making more than his offensive coordinator in base salary, he'll survive without any bonuses.
- Demetrice Martin, defensive backs: $295,100, plus a $79,900 signing bonus. Eligible for a $104,900 retention bonus on Jan. 1, 2016.
- Eric Yarber, wide receviers: $260,000 in 2014, and then $285,000 in 2015.
- Kennedy Polamalu, running backs: $227,500, plus a $72,500 retention bonus due June 15 and a $100,000 retention bonus on Nov. 15.
- Angus McClure, defensive line: $227,500 each of the next two seasons, and a $52,500 signing bonus. Eligible for a $72,500 retention bonus on Jan. 1, 2016.
- Mike Tuiasasopo, linebackers: $210,000 each of the next two seasons, plus a $50,000 signing bonus.
- Taylor Mazzone, quarterbacks: $107,500, plus a $2,500 signing bonus.
The new deals were a lynchpin in keeping head coach Jim Mora at UCLA. Mora signed a six-year, $21 million extension in December.
The Bruins are 19-8 in two seasons under Mora and staff, and figure to be a consensus preseason top-10 pick heading into 2014.
