Washington State is tied for 47th nationally in turnovers forced this year. Which is pretty good.
But it's an outright miracle considering this same Cougars team finished dead last nationally with only eight takeaways for the entire season.
Except it's not really the same defense. Alex Grinch arrived from Missouri to coordinate Wazzu's defense, and he's changed the mindset immediately. "It's one of those deals where there's more to be had," Grinch told ESPN. "There are more opportunities out there. You create them as opposed to hoping the ball finds you. We preach that takeaways equal victory. But if we want to have success down the stretch, that has to continue."
The Cougars sit at 6-3 this season and 4-2 in Pac-12 play, needing just one more victory to post their first 7-plus win regular season and 5-plus win Pac-12 season since 2003.
