South Carolina: South Carolina is closing in on a head coaching hire, according to Alex Marvez of FoxSports.com. Marvez reported Gamecocks coaches have been told to stop pursuing commitments in order to reserve scholarships for the oncoming hire. Interim head coach Shawn Elliott told South Carolina's 247 site after the Cocks' game Saturday the report was untrue.

Cleveland Browns: Owner Jimmy Haslam said Sunday the team will make "no changes" during its bye week, according to Tom Reed of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

UVA-Wise (D-II): Head coach Dewey Lusk has announced his resignation after five seasons leading the program. The school adds that Lusk's staff also will not return for the 2016 season.

Whittier College (D-III - CA): Head coach Todd Stratton has resigned from the head coaching position. Stratton led the program for four years.

Louisiana-Monroe: Defensive line coach John Mumford will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season following Todd Berry's dismissal.

Maryland: Jason La Canfora of CBS is reporting that Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is interested in the Maryland opening, and that the interest is mutual with the Terps. This report is a head scratcher because our understanding is that O'Brien has no interest in becoming a college coach again. Update> John McClain, who covers the Texans, says O'Brien has "no interest in the Maryland job, despite a report to the contrary".

Millikin (D-III - IL): Head coach Patrick Etherton has resigned. Etherton, who spent the past 12 years at Millikin, took over as head coach in 2011.

Illinois: Following their 28-3 loss at Ohio State, multiple Illinois players and Bill Cubit very vocally stated their desires that Cubit be named permanent head coach.

Miami: Tuesday sources told us Mario Cristobal was at the top of Miami's list. The following day the Miami Herald wrote that Butch Davis "hadn't been written off". This morning, Barry Jackson of the Herald writes that per an associate of Miami AD Blake James, Butch Davis "remains simply a fallback option, if several more appealing options don't materialize." - Keep up with the Miami Tracker
