Iowa State: Matt Campbell has formally announced the addition of Brandon Ireland as a strength and conditioning assistant for the Cyclones. Ireland spent the 2015 season as a member of the strength staff at Illinois, and was with the Florida Gatos fom 2013-2014 prior to that.
Central Florida: The University of Central Florida Sports Performance department is now accepting applications for the Fall 2016 internship program, starting August 18th and lasting through December with the opportunity to continue into the Spring semester. Selected individuals should expect to gain experience working with all Olympic sports at the University of Central Florida. Applicants should be highly motivated, eager to learn, and possess the desire to be involved with high-level collegiate athletics. Applicants should be working toward a degree in Exercise Science, or hold an undergraduate degree in the respective field and be working towards an accredited certification (CSCS or SCCC). Accepted interns should expect early mornings and evening hours and the opportunity to learn directly from the sports performance staff through team training sessions, as well as involvement in weekly staff meetings and intern education workshops designed to prepare interns to sit for the CSCS exam. There will be no monetary compensation for this position; however, selected individuals should expect to receive valuable experience with various Division 1 athletic programs. Interns will also earn a letter of recommendation at the completion of the internship (contingent upon performance). Applications will be taken until the positions are filled. Southern Cal: University of Southern California Department of Strength and Conditioning is accepting applications for Fall 2016 internship (Football). Intern responsibilities include: assisting with the supervision of training programs, assisting with daily set up and maintenance and completion of various educational assignments during the internship. Intern qualifications include: strong work ethic, punctuality, enthusiasm desire to further one’s career in the strength and conditioning field and ability to volunteer a minimum of 20 hours per week. Preferred qualifications include: senior status or completion of a bachelor’s degree in exercise science or related field, CSCS, SCCC, or USAW certification and CPR certification. This is an unpaid internship. Interns will receive experience working in a PAC 12 training environment, have the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities, and receive college credit if applicable. Shorter (D-II – GA): Shorter University is looking to hire a Director of Strength and Conditioning. This 12-month position provides leadership, instruction, and program support in the area of performance training through strength, speed, and conditioning development. The University sponsors 21 sports teams including football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, cross country/indoor and outdoor track, golf, tennis, baseball, softball, lacrosse, wrestling, and cheer. JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Athletics Director, the successful applicant will be responsible for the strength and conditioning development of all sports teams. The strength coach will coordinate all aspects of the daily performance training procedures and operations. The strength coach will also provide instruction to individuals and teams on proper multi-joint sport movements to enhance power, speed, and flexibility. Collaboration with head coaches and the head athletics trainer is essential to design and implement sport-specific year round training programs, and to devise injury prevention strategies and aid in rehabilitation activities. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications. An excellent benefits package is included. Preferred starting date is August 1, 2016. Final candidates must submit to a background check and drug test. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Master’s degree is preferred. Memphis: Memphis is looking for candidates for an athletic development fall internship. The goal of our program is to provide an encompassing view of collegiate strength and conditioning, including programming, exercise technique and facility upkeep. The internship position is geared primarily towards Football but the intern will in addition gain exposure to a diverse array of 14 sports in a high paced environment. As an intern in the University of Memphis Athletic Development program you will have the opportunity to gain real world in the trenches coaching experience; you will also learn under the bar while training in the program. Aside from the daily duties required of the position there will be assigned readings and projects to further the development of your knowledge base. This internship is designed for you to develop the needed experience and skills to make you a stronger candidate in taking the next step in your coaching career – this typically being a graduate assistant coaching position. This internship is intended for those whose #1 goal is to become a Strength & Conditioning coach at the collegiate level. Qualifications: In pursuit of or recent completion of a Bachelors degree in an exercise science related field. Experience in a collegiate strength and conditioning setting. If not already certified you will be expected to begin your certification process towards your CSCS, CSCCa, and/or USAW during your internship.
