Holgorsen's deal will average a reported $3.72 million annually. He made $2.98 million in 2016 according to the USA Today salary database.
Holgorsen, whose name was being talked about for a number of other openings, led the Mountaineers to an impressive 9-2 record heading into their regular season finale against Baylor this weekend. Known for his offense, one of the keys to their success this season was actually the team's big improvement on the defensive side of the ball.
Holgo was handed the keys to the program heading into the 2011 season, and led the team to an impressive 10-3 mark in his first season. In the years that followed, the Mountaineers finished 7-6, 4-8, 7-6. and 8-5 before talks of being on the hot seat circulated heading into the 2016 season. Holgo put those rumors to bed with a great 6-0 start to the year before losing to Oklahoma State week seven. Their other loss came to the team Oklahoma State played in what amounted to be the Big 12 title game this weekend, Oklahoma, a few weeks later in the middle of November.
Overall, Holgo is 45-30 in Morgantown, with a 26-25 record in Big 12 play.
