Texas: UT head strength & conditioning coach for baseball Lance Sewell has been dismissed. Sewell had just completed his 12th season at Texas. The Statesman reports that the decision was made by "Donnie Maib and strength and conditioning staff at Texas and not the Longhorns baseball program."
FAU: The Florida Atlantic University Strength & Conditioning department is accepting applications for the position of Strength & Conditioning Volunteer Intern for Football, during the Fall 2015 semester (August 17th – December 11th). Compensation: Division I Intercollegiate experience; an earned recommendation toward further success as a Strength & Conditioning Coach; as well as college credit toward graduation, if applicable. Please be aware that there will be NO monetary compensation, nor housing offered for this position. Duties will include, but are not limited to: assisting staff in the implementation of strength and conditioning programs for the FAU Football team; set up, and breakdown of training equipment; as well as assisting in the maintenance and upkeep of the facility. Minimum Qualifications: Strong work ethic, and highly motivated; preferred candidates are to be in a Bachelor’s degree program geared towards Exercise Physiology or a related field; experience in a college strength & conditioning setting. Preferred Qualifications: Working towards a Graduate’s degree in a program geared toward Exercise Physiology or a related field; knowledge/experience working with Microsoft Excel. University of North Georgia: The University of North Georgia Strength and Conditioning is now accepting applications for the Strength and Conditioning internship for the Fall 2015 academic calendar. The applicant should possess a minimum of three years of personal training and/or one year in a strength and conditioning setting. The applicant must also hold a nationally recognized certification and a CPR/AED certification. Middle Tennessee: Middle Tennessee State University Strength & Conditioning Department is accepting applications for a Paid Part Time assistant that will work with football and Men’s basketball. Responsibilities include assisting with daily operations, administrative and maintenance duties, and various assignments as directed by the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. This is an entry level position and the individual will receive experience working for a Division I University and have the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities. North Dakota State:The North Dakota State University Strength & Conditioning Department is actively seeking applicants for one paid internship position working with Olympic Sports within our program for the 2015-2016 academic year. This position will begin in August and conclude at the end of the school year in May. The intent of the internship is to provide a year of hands-on training to prepare the candidate to take on a two year GA position within our program beginning summer 2016. Interns can expect to gain valuable, hands on experience in areas such as program design, exercise instruction, plyometric, speed and agility techniques, conditioning, facility and athlete management. Internship responsibilities will vary and will include various duties within the NDSU Strength & Conditioning Department. Hours will vary throughout the semester and may include early morning, late afternoon, or weekend hours. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a related field required, CSCS preferred. Minimum GPA: 3.0. Must have a strong desire to pursue a career in strength and conditioning, possess an excellent work ethic and have the ability to take initiative and be pro-active. Previous weight room or athletic coaching experience preferred. Compensation: $6000 stipend per year. Academic credit available. South Florida: Stephen Parker is now an assistant strength coach at University of South Florida. Parker was a grad assistant at Southern Miss.
Middle Tennessee: Middle Tennessee State University Strength & Conditioning Department is accepting applications for volunteer interns to assist with both football and Olympic sports during Fall Semester 2015. The candidate/s will work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Responsibilities include assisting with daily operations, administrative and maintenance duties, and various assignments as directed by the strength staff. This is an unpaid internship, with no compensation or housing provided. Interns will receive experience working for a Division I University and have the potential to earn recommendations for future career opportunities. Intern/s will receive professional work experience and develop skills to become a successful strength and conditioning coach at the collegiate and professional level. Interns must be highly motivated, have a strong work ethic, and have an interest in the strength and conditioning field. The Director of Strength and Conditioning is also a Master Strength and Conditioning Certified Coach through the CSCCa and an approved mentor. After a 640-hour internship is completed at Middle Tennessee State University the interns will be eligible to sit for the SCCC exam at the CSCCa conference the following May. Creighton University (NE): Creighton University is currently accepting applications for a qualified and highly motivated individual looking to further develop their skills, as they relate to strength and conditioning, through an unpaid internship.
Expectations of the intern(s) include the following:
- Provide safe and effective coaching on all lifts, movement mechanics, soft tissue and mobility/flexibility work
- Willingness to assist in daily maintenance and upkeep of Athletic Performance Center
- Strong communication, leadership, integrity, self-confidence and a willingness to learn
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, enthusiasm, positivity and a desire to improve one’s self for the possibility of future endeavors in the field
- Willingness to work a minimum of 20 hours/week
Preferences of the candidate(s) include the following:
- Pursuing future career in strength and conditioning as demonstrated by pursuit of professional certifications (CSCS, CSCC, USAW) and/or continued pursuit of undergraduate degree in a sport science or related field
- CPR/First Aid and AED certification
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of strength and cardio equipment
- Previous coaching experience in a team setting
Benefits to the candidate would include experience in strength and conditioning at a collegiate level, internship manual and learning course, and the potential to earn a recommendation for advancement in the field.
