Please join us in praying for the family of NFL Films legend Ed Sabol, who has passed away at age 98. Sabol was the founder of NFL Films and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011 as a result of his work with the iconic company.
Atlanta Falcons: Per source, Doug Mallory is joining the staff as assistant linebackers coach.
Oklahoma: Dennis Simmons has now been announced as the outside receivers coach, Kerry Cooks will coach the defensive backs, Mike Stoops will move to outside linebackers, defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery has added the co-defensive coordinator title, and Tim Kish will coach the inside linebackers. On the offensive side of things, Cale Gundy will move from running backs to inside receivers and will add the assistant head coach title and tight ends / special teams coordinator Jay Boulware will take over the running backs and continue to coordinate the special teams.
Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks have made it official and named Kris Richard their defensive coordinator. They have also name Michael Barrow linebackers coach, Brennan Carroll assistant offensive line coach, and Lofa Tatupu assistant linebackers coach.
San Francisco 49ers: The Niners have announced their entire coaching staff under Jim Tomsula. The offensive side will consist of; Geep Chryst (OC), Ronald Curry (WRs), Chris Foerster (OL), Adam Henry (WRs), Steve Logan (QBs), Tom Rathman (RBs), Tony Sparano (TEs), Eric Wolford (assistant OL), DJ Boldin (offensive assistant). The defensive coaches include Eric Mangini (DC), Scott Brown (DL), Tim Lewis (secondary), Clancy Pendergast (LBs), Jason Tarver (senior defensive analyst / LBs), and Ejiro Evero, Aubrayo Franklin, and Mick Lombardi (defensive assistants). Thomas McGaughey Jr will handle the special teams duties, and Richard Hightower will be the assistant special teams coach.
Oregon: Mark Helfrich and Oregon have agreed to a new $5-year deal worth $17.5 million, the university has announced. The report also states that athletic director Rob Mullens has agreed to a new deal as well, details can be seen on AD Scoop.
Rutgers: Offensive coordinator Ralph Friedgen is not expected to return, NJ.com is reporting.
Seattle Seahawks: Per SI, former Miami Hurricanes linebackers coach Michael Barrow is expected to accept the linebackers job with the Seahawks.
Georgetown College (NAIA - KY): Offensive coordinator Eddie Eviston has been hired as the new head coach at Covington Catholic HS (KY). Eviston previously led Newport Central Catholic HS (KY) to two state titles prior to his appointment at Georgetown College.
Fresno State: Tim DeRuyter has formally announced the following staff assignments - Ron Antoine and Joe Wade will switch positions, with Antoine taking the running backs and Wade moving to outside receivers. Jordan Peterson will now coach outside linebackers, while Marcus Woodson will remain as secondary coach and defensive coordinator Nick Toth continuing to coach inside linebackers.
Hartnell College (JC - CA): Hartnell College is currently seeking an Assistant Coach (Receivers). Qualified applicants will have earned a Masters' Degree in Physical Education/Kinesiology and have at least 2 years of coaching and playing experience at the Collegiate level. The selected applicant will have technical knowledge of coaching receivers, be a great communicator, have the ability to evaluate talent and recruit, and have the ability to work with various college student-athletes of diverse backgrounds. The position offers a $4,000 stipend and between 8-10 hours/week teaching in our weight room lab. The position will be open and hopefully filled ASAP. Spring workouts begin in March. Miami: Former Miami receiver Kevin Beard (who served as the assistant DFO last season) will be promoted to receivers coach, per Christy Chirinos who covers the 'Canes. Sources confirm the hire to FootballScoop.
Louisiana Tech: Southeastern Louisiana defensive coordinator Karl Scott will be the new safeties coach at LA Tech, per source.
Seattle Seahawks: University of Miami receivers coach Brennan Carroll will accept a position with the Seahawks per CanesInsight. Carroll also served as Miami's recruiting coordinator.
Green Bay Packers: The Packers are adding San Francisco offensive line coach Mike Solari to the coaching staff in a role to be determined, per Alex Marvez. Solari has spent the past five seasons with the Niners.
Millersville University (D-II - PA): Millersville University is looking to fill their opening game for 2015 (Thursday 9/3 or Saturday 9/5). Prefer a D-II opponent. Open to playing either an FCS or D-II road game with a guarantee or a D-II / NAIA home game with the possibility of a return trip in the future. Central Michigan: Per source, special teams coordinator Kyle Nystrom is not expected to remain on staff; however we understand that nearly all of the other remaining staff members will be retained. Will update once more is clear. Defensive coordinator Joe Tumpkin and Butch Barry have already left.
San Diego Chargers: The Chargers have hired Chris Shula as a quality control coach, according to Albert Breer. Chris is the grandson of Don Shula.
College Football Playoff: Texas Tech athletics director Kirby Hocutt has joined the CFP's selection committee.
UConn: Frank Verducci, the tackles and tight ends coach at Northern Iowa (FCS), has been hired as the offensive coordinator / running backs coach at UConn. In 2009, Verducci served as the offensive line and run game coordinator at Notre Dame, in 2010 he was an advanced scout for the Rams, in 2011 he was the offensive line coach / run game coordinator at Florida, and he spent the 2012 season in Canada with the Montreal Alouettes. Also, Wayne Lineburg will now coach the quarterbacks after coaching the WRs and special teams last season, Don Patterson (who coached QBs in 2014) will move to tight ends, and David Corley (who coached RBs in 2014) will now coach the receivers and coordinate special teams.
Arkansas: Bret Bielema has confirmed that running backs coach Joel Thomas is leaving for the New Orleans Saints and Steve Loney who was consulting for Arkansas is joining the Dallas Cowboys.
NFL: The league has announced the hiring of Dr. Elizabeth Nabel as its chief medical officer.
South Carolina: The board of trustees has approved the hiring and contract of co-defensive coordinator Jon Hoke, who will make $750,000 as part of a two-year deal, with a possible $125,000 in incentives included annually.
New York Jets: We understand that Ryan Slowik will be the assistant defensive line coach, and that John Scott Jr. will serve as a defensive quality control coach.
Green Bay Packers: According to multiple reports, head coach Mike McCarthy is shifting some responsibilities around. Tom Clements, who served as offensive coordinator the past three seasons, will now take over play calling duties and add the title of associate head coach, and receivers coach Edgar Bennett will add the offensive coordinator title. The news was first reported by WDUZ in Green Bay.
