We saw an item in the Baton Rouge Business Report that could effect coaches and staffers in the LSU football offices.... or it may not affect them at all.

According to a university spokesman, LSU is considering making its entire campus tobacco-free as of August 1. It is unclear at this time exactly whether that would stretch to all forms of tobacco or just cigarettes and the like, but it is believed to cover all forms of tobacco.

Players and coaches are already prohibited by the NCAA from consuming tobacco during games or practices, but coaches are currently free to dip in their offices. That may be off the table at LSU by the time fall camp rolls around.

If LSU is considering this topic, then certainly plenty of other major universities are...and undoubtedly hundreds, if not thousands, of high schools have already completely banned tobacco.

Our question is, how many coaches and football staffers would this affect if the NCAA banned all sorts of tobacco at all times. How many coaches dip on a regular basis? The guess here is that it's much lower than it was in the 1960's and '70's, but still holding strong among a certain segment of the coaching population, mirroring the nation at large. But we don't know for sure.

Is this true? How many coaches like to throw a dip in? Is it more than we'd think? Less?
