There aren't many coaches with better job security these days than Dabo Swinney. Nor should there be.
After all, the man is 75-27 in his seven and a half seasons at Clemson, including 56-12 (34-6 ACC) with two ACC championships, five top-25 finishes, five 10-win seasons, three top-10 rankings, two Orange Bowl victories and a national championship appearance since 2011.
There are coaches that have accomplished more over that span, but their names are Saban, Meyer and Fisher. That's it.
So today may have been a strange day to ask him about his job security, but perhaps because he's so far from any sort of hot seat talk Dabo was able to provide a clear, honest, realistic answer:
"Ain't no job security in what I do, that's for sure. If they'll tell Coach Bobby Bowden that it's time to move on, they'll tell Dabo, I promise you. There's no security in what we do.
But I don't think of it like that. I just focus on trying to do the best I can do day in and day out, year in and year out. Sometimes, as I tell my players, these days are long but the years are short. Just try to enjoy the journey. That's really it."
And, really, when 20 percent of your peers are replaced on an annual basis, what other way is there to look at it?
