Chris Petersen says he feels bad for beating Oregon 70-21 (Mark Helfrich)

I wrote on Thursday Washington would beat Oregon but the Huskies wouldn't pile it on. Chris Petersen doesn't do that, especially not against his friends. While Washington and Oregon are rivals, Petersen and Ducks head coach Mark Helfrich's relationship dates back to time spent together on Oregon's staff in the mid-90's, and, with Oregon's program struggling, Petersen wouldn't want to run up the score.

I was right. And wrong.

Washington did pile it on Oregon, winning 70-21 to snap a 12-game losing streak to their rivals, but Petersen didn't want to... it just kind of happened.

“I think he’s an awesome guy and I’ve got tremendous respect for this place, and so I’m never into (that),” Petersen told the Seattle Times. “I feel bad. This is a hard business, and I think they’re really good people and really good coaches. It’s a game of momentum, and right now they don’t have it and we have momentum. You know how that can go, and you feel for them.”

Washington (5-0, 3-0 Pac-12) hosts Oregon State on Oct. 22 after a bye next week, while Oregon (2-4, 0-3 Pac-12) also takes next week off before a Friday night visit to California.
