XFL plans to name rest of league's head coaches by end of March (Featured)

Bob Stoops is the lone coach officially in place right now with the XFL, with the former Oklahoma head coach coming out of retirement to take over the Dallas team, and we'll have a full, clear picture of what the leaders of the second-chance league will look like by the end of March according to what XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck shared on a recent appearance on the Charlie Brennan Show.

β€œWe’ve got a cadence going of about one head coach announcement per week and we will get all our markets done by the end in March," Luck shared.

"At some point, probably in April, we will be able to launch the team names, team colors, identity, and logos."

Other coaches that have been widely rumored to be taking over new XFL teams are Pep Hamilton in the Washington DC market, and Jim Zorn of the Seattle franchise.

In the interview, Luck also shared that the team plans to have a 10-game season kicking off the weekend after the Super Bowl (same as the AAF which started a few weeks back), followed by the top four teams squaring off in semifinal action in week 11, and the title game taking place at the end of April.

As for the TV package the XFL will roll out, Luck says they're really close to announcing a strong broadcast package featuring four games every weekend.

"Two of those four games will be broadcast over the air, terrestrial major carriers, and the remaining two games will be broadcast over cable, but fully distributed cable sports brands that people will absolutely recognize."

With the AAF already reportedly on life-support in week two, needing a $250 million investment to stay afloat as we shared earlier this week, it will be interesting to see how the XFL comes out of the gate competing for the same market share during the same time period. The AAF has an intriguing product and head coaches, and will have full year head start, with the on-field product better than expected by many, so the XFL will have some ground to make up right out of the gate.
