The XFL on Thursday announced Jonathan Hayes as the head coach of its to-be-named St. Louis franchise.
Hayes spent the past 16 seasons as the tight ends coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. He was not retained by the club after the firing of Marvin Lewis and hiring of new head coach Zac Taylor.
Prior to Cincinnati, Hayes was the tight ends coach for Bob Stoops at Oklahoma from 1999-02. Stoops is now the head coach of the XFL's Dallas franchise.
Hayes played college football at Iowa and spent 12 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The St. Louis franchise will play in The Dome at America's Center, the venue vacated by the Rams when they left for Los Angeles.
With Hayes and New York head coach Kevin Gilbride now on board, the XFL now just lacks head coaches for its Houston and Los Angeles teams.
