Houston: Rod Grace has been promoted to director of sports performance, and Tom Farniok has been hired as assistant director of sports performance. 

Nevada: Jay Norvell has hired Jordon Simmons to serve as head strength coach for football; but Matt Eck will remain at Nevada overseeing other sports reports Chris Murray of the RGJ.

FIU: Florida International University Strength & Conditioning Department is accepting applications for the position of Strength and Conditioning Volunteer Intern (3-4 positions) for Football for the Spring 2017 semester. The FIU staff is looking for highly motivated, hungry, aspiring strength coaches that want to work at the collegiate level. The program is beneficial for undergraduate students and the post bachelor professional looking for experience; as well as develops characteristics necessary to become a successful strength and conditioning coach. The successful candidates will be required to schedule and maintain a minimum of 40 hours per week with the Strength & Conditioning Department. Compensation: Division 1 experience with earned recommendation for future career opportunities, learning directly from certified strength coaches, hands on experience with college athletes. No monetary compensation will be provided. Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree and a certification from one of the following: CSCS; SCCC; USAW but are not required. Notre Dame: Sources tell us that Matt Balis is joining the Notre Dame strength staff. Balis previously worked as the head strength and conditioning coordinator at UConn, and Mississippi State before that.

Lee University: Lee University Strength and Conditioning is searching for a candidate for a PAID Internship. This position is a ten (10) month position that includes both Spring 2017 and Fall 2017 semesters. Compensation for this position will include a $1,000 Monthly Stipend. The Summer 2017 Semester will be unpaid, however there will be opportunities to earn some income through summer athletic camps. This Position will start the Spring 2017 semester at the earliest convenience of the chosen candidate. The chosen candidate, under the head strength coaches’ supervision, will design and implement programs for teams’ dependent upon experience level and assist with various other teams in the weight room setting. Qualifications include completed Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or a related field, CPR certified and certified through either CSCCa, NSCA or USAW. Other qualifications include collegiate athletics experience or experience as an intern in a collegiate strength and conditioning setting, have effective communication skills, positive attitude, punctuality, and a willingness to work well with others. Preferred qualifications include experience with developing and implementing strength programs for various sports at the collegiate level.
