Dave Doeren has been offered the head coaching position at Tennessee per multiple reports Wednesday night.

Doeren emerged as the leading candidate Wednesday afternoon after the searched moved on from Mike Gundy on Tuesday and Jeff Brohm on Wednesday morning. Doeren recently completed his fifth regular season at NC State; his 8-4 record marked his best regular season thus far. Doeren holds a 33-30 mark (15-25 ACC) in Raleigh.

Doeren went 23-4 with two MAC championships in two seasons at Northern Illinois before leaving for NC State after the 2012 regular season.

Doeren would inherit a Tennessee program fresh off its first 0-8 SEC season in program history and a fan base starved for success after 10 seasons and counting without an SEC East championship and a fractured, contentious coaching search.
