Willie Taggart is expected to inform his team he is leaving Oregon to accept the Florida State job, according to a report from Josh Newberg of Noles247. FootballScoop can confirm the news.
Update: The school has announced the hire.
Much of Taggart's staff is expected to make the move with him, though it remains to be seen whether offensive coordinator Mario Cristobal and defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt will follow Taggart to Tallahassee.
Taggart left Oregon Sunday night on a private plane owned by an Oregon donor along with other Oregon staff members. Following a recruiting visit, he reportedly informed Oregon officials of his intent to meet with Florida State officials. It's since been widely reported Taggart met with Florida State officials while in Arizona.
When announced, Taggart will have pulled off the rare "coached three college football teams in the last 365 days" move. On Dec. 6, 2016, Taggart was still the head coach at South Florida, he accepted the Oregon job on Dec. 7, 2016, and now, Taggart, on Dec. 5, 2017, Taggart is expected to take the Florida State job.
Taggart returned to Eugene last night to speak with his team and collect his family before heading to Tallahassee. Official word of the agreement is expected to be released following the Ducks' team meeting.
