Oregon is working on an extension for head coach Mario Cristobal, according to The Oregonian.
The amendment would be a 1-year extension that keeps Cristobal under contract through the 2023 season. Financial terms were not disclosed; Cristobal earned $2.5 million in 2018, the eighth-highest salary among Pac-12 head coaches, according to the USA Today salary database.
“Credit to Mario, we’ve basically had it done for a while,” Oregon AD Rob Mullens told the paper. “It’s just been his highest priority to get across the finish line. It’s coming. He got locked into spring football. It was all done really, we just got to dot the Is, cross the Ts and sign.”
Hired away from Alabama after spending four years as the Tide's offensive line coach, Cristobal spent a year as Oregon's co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach under Willie Taggart, then was promoted to head coach when Taggart left for Florida State after a year in Eugene.
In his one season (to date) as the head Duck, Cristobal went 9-4 with a victory in the Redbox Bowl.
Oregon's 2019 recruiting class, the first full class under Cristobal's leadership, ranked No. 7 in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings; the next-best Pac-12 recruiting class was USC at No. 20.
