Report: Art Briles guest coaching with the Cleveland Browns

Art Briles is back in coaching. For the time being.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, Briles is serving as an offensive consultant with the Cleveland Browns. The former Baylor coach was spotted on the Browns practice field in Browns garb on Wednesday.

Cabot reports that Briles is guest coaching with the Browns, at the request of head coach Hue Jackson. It is not immediately clear how long the appointment will last.

The Browns are not lacking for coaches in the offensive kitchen. Jackson is an offensive mind and installed himself as offensive coordinator. The club also has Pep Hamilton as assistant head coach for offense, wide receivers coach Al Sanders as a senior offensive assistant, and running backs coach Kirby Wilson as running game coordinator.

Briles made the training camp rounds this summer, visiting teams where he had a connection by way of former Bears players. The Browns are a Baylor-heavy offense with former Heisman-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III, first-round wide receiver Corey Coleman and offensive lineman Spencer Drango.

"Hey, I'll learn from anybody if they can help us,'' Jackson said of Briles in August. "Obviously, he's a very accomplished college coach and has done outstanding. I wish him well. He's done just outstanding at Baylor, but at the same time, I think he was here to see his guys and get an opportunity to see us, our organization and what we do, but more so see his football players."

The only winless team in the NFL, the Browns rank 20th in the league in total offense and 29th in scoring.
