The past several years, there has been an influx of talent from overseas make an impact on college football games. Players have recently come from as far as Australia (remember Jim Harbaugh's Australian satellite camp back in 2016?) and throughout Europe to try their hand at American football while getting a great education as well. Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, Temple, Nebraska, Virginia, Boise State, Colorado & Georgia Tech are among some of the Power 5 programs reportedly recruiting players from Europe in the last few classes.
Towson (FCS - MD) is one of those many programs, as a look at their roster shows that sophomore defensive lineman Tibo Debaillie hails from Belgium.
To tap into that pipeline a bit more, Towson sent defensive line coach Konstantinos Kosmakos on a 10-day recruiting trip to Europe. Judging from the pictures he's been sharing during his adventures, this is a recruiting trip every coach (and his wife) should covet.
Guardian Caps: Got linemen? Pad them for inside run… “We have put them on all of the front seven defensively, mandatory, we've put them on everybody on offense but our quarterbacks and receivers.” – Lincoln Riley, OU. Get a quote for team pricing!
At the end of the trip, coach Kosmakos will have traveled nearly 12,000 miles, taken 8 flights, and touched down in 6 countries.
Here's a run down of the trip via coach Kosmakos timeline.
During his travels, coach Kosmakos ran into his Belgian defensive lineman and his family.
If Towson ends up landing a recruit, or developing a relationship with someone that can lead to a recruit or two down the road, this trip is a no brainer. Not to mention the experience and lifelong memories that it provides coach Kosmakos.
Moving forward, head coaches and administrators should be prepared for these types of recruiting trips to be requested with a +1 for the wives as well now.
