Phil Savage, Senior Bowl 'mutually parting ways' (phil savage)

The top college football all-star game is losing its chief talent spotter.

The Senior Bowl announced Wednesday it is "mutually parting ways" with executive director Phil Savage, effective Tuesday, May 15. Savage was the game's executive director for six years.

"After six years together, it is with regret that we announce today that Phil and the organization will be mutually parting ways as of May 15, 2018," the game said in a press release. "Phil deserves a great deal of credit for being a loyal caretaker of Mobile's signature football event, and he will be missed by the Reese's Senior Bowl staff and Mobilians everywhere."

Said Savage in a text message to AL.com: "I enjoyed six amazing years at the Reese's Senior Bowl. I am looking forward to the future."

Prior to running the Senior Bowl, Savage worked as the Cleveland Browns' general manager from 2005-08 and served as director of player personnel for the Baltimore Ravens under outgoing GM Ozzie Newsome. Savage will continue in his work as the color analyst for Alabama's radio broadcast crew.

Savage's bona fides bolstered the Senior Bowl's reputation as the premier college all-star game, which, in turns, makes Mobile in late January the premier social gathering among the who's who of the NFL and college football coaching worlds.

Eighty-four Senior Bowl participants were chosen in last month's NFL draft.

The game is managed by the Mobile Arts and Sports Association, who said it will form a committee to identify Savage's replacement.
