Every college football coach in the country uses Twitter to recruit, typically in the same manner. "Come play for us! We've got the best academics in our conference! 45 NFL players! 72 conference championships! Ten Chick-fil-As in a 2-mile radius!"
Of course, coaches and staffs will tailor their messages to reach a specific recruit, and plenty more are becoming bolder in re-tweeting positives messages from specific recruits. But I've never before seen a coach use Twitter as a job board.
That's what Mark Richt did last week. His Miami team needs a running back, so the head Cane put a message out to his 302,000 followers looking for a running back.
Richt is famously a man of faith who puts his convictions into his coaching. This recruiting tactic clearly follows the words of Jesus in Matthew 7:7: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." On Tuesday, this happened:
Miami added FCS All-American Dee Delaney, a cornerback, to its roster. While Delany doesn't fulfill Richt's request from last week, it's still smart recruiting -- if you're a graduate transfer or FCS running back looking for a new home, don't you give Miami a call before you do anything else?
