Gary Patterson has cancelled TCU's spring game due to a lack of players (Gary Patterson)

TCU's spring game was set to take place this weekend, but Gary Patterson has announced that the game will no longer take place because they don't have enough healthy players.

Has that ever happened before?

The Horned Frogs, who battled a number of injuries to key contributors last fall as they finished 7-6 on the year, have a number of players missing spring practices with various injuries. Patterson shared with the Star-Telegram that they've been practicing with about half of the allowed 85 scholarship players allowed.

An FBS program trying to be efficient with their spring practices while working with just 40-some players would be pretty tough for just about any program.

By fall camp, TCU will gain 17 players that signed their letter of intent out of high school, as well as two transfers. Add the players that limped through spring ball, or weren't able to participate, and Patterson's roster will hopefully be a whole lot healthier after having some time to heal up.

TCU's early non-conference schedule includes a home opener against FCS Arkansas-Pine Bluff, followed by a bye week leading into a trip to Purdue, and a home tilt against SMU the week after. Then they'll take road trips to conference foes Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma throughout the rest of the regular season.
