Your annual reminder to play through the whistle

It should have been a safety. One hundred yards later, it was a touchdown going the other way.

A Division II game on Thursday night created the play of the season so far in college football, when Minot State kick returner Cory Carignan muffed a kickoff into his own end zone. Carnigan picked up the ball and was immediately swarmed by Minnesota-Duluth's kickoff team; three Bulldogs had Carnigan within their grasp, but still he kept running. Carnigan bounced wide and, having essentially defeated half of UMD's coverage team by himself, found a waiting envoy on the right side of the field, which happily escorted him 105 yards to the promised land.

No matter what side of the ball you're on, play through the whistle, kids.
