Benches cleared and tempers flared right at the halftime buzzer Saturday evening in the hastily assembled, high-stakes BYU-Coastal Carolina contest.
With BYU up 14-13, Cougars star quarterback Zach Wilson heaved a Hail Mary pass on the final play of the second quarter.
Wilson's pass was picked off in the end zone, and Coastal defender Derrick Bush raced back 42 yards with the turnover.
Wilson wasn't actively pursuing the play, instead watching as it unfolded in front of him and drifting behind the action should he have needed to attempt to make a stop.
Instead, Wilson got double-teamed by a pair of Chanticleers defenders – Teddy Gallagher and Jeffrey Gunter, with Gunter eventually hoisting Wilson off the ground and slamming him onto the turf.
