New Research - How Two Programs Are Solving Backside Issues in Wide Zone: You can’t make a living on wide zone runs without consistently handling the backside edge. While nakeds and slice concepts can only get you so far, defenses will eventually adapt by pushing second-level backers to fit run-throughs and chase down ball carriers. X&O Labs' Mike Kuchar studied how two programs treat outside zone like inside zone by building backside tags to handle these issues. William and Mary have gone wholesale into using triple option principles on the backside while UCONN has implemented quick game concepts like snag and smash to manipulate flat defenders. Atlanta Falcons: The team has requested an interview with Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald for the head coaching opening, Adam Schefter shares. The Falcons, Titans, Commanders, Panthers and Chargers have all requested Macdonald as well.
Illinois: Linebackers coach Andy Buh and defensive backs coach Antonio Fenelus are no longer with the program.
Wyoming: Linebackers coach Aaron Bohl has now officially been promoted to defensive coordinator. Further, Jason Petrino is joining the staff coaching safeties and additional responsibilities sources tell FootballScoop. ESPN is also reporting on Petrino joining the staff. Petrino served as defensive coordinator and oversaw safeties as well at NDSU this past season.

Eastern Illinois (FCS): Head coach Chris Wilkerson has announced a number of internal promotions at EIU, including to fill all three coordinator spots. As we previously shared, associate head coach Kyle Derickson is taking over as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and inside linebackers coach Collin Geier has been elevated to defensive coordinator. Outside linebackers coach Andrew Brady has added special teams coordinator duties, and corners coach Maurice Fleming is adding defensive pass game coordinator responsibilities while offensive line coach John Cannova is adding run game coordinator duties.
