The Loaded Presentation Pressure Menu: Last season 5-0-5 Bear fronts were all the rage in college football, because of their ability to manipulate one-on-ones in protection schemes. This season Bear presentations have transitioned into what is known as β€œloaded” fronts, which are three-to-a-side alignments at the line of scrimmage putting the offensive line in a precarious predicament. They either slide to the overload, allowing a one-on-one with a Tackle on a superior pass rusher. Or, they slide away and become susceptible to three-man games against man-protection scenarios. At Furman University (SC), co-defensive coordinator Chad Byers chooses to bring pressure to the load side, which he often calls to the boundary. These were mainly third-down presentations, in which Furman finished 9th in the country this season in that situation. In this exclusive clinic report from X&O Labs, Coach Byers details his entire loaded pressure menu and how it can manipulate protections. Read more.
