Will Hall put together impressive resumes as the head coach at both West Georgia and West Alabama during three-year runs with each school before being tasked with rebuilding the Southern Miss program heading into the 2021 season.
However, the school has announced tonight that Hall is being let go in Hattiesburg.
"We are grateful to Will and his family for their dedication to Southern Miss over the past four years," AD Jeremy McClain shared in the school's statement.
"Will poured his heart and soul into this program and into shaping these young men. Unfortunately, the results on the field didn't align with our shared goals and expectations."
Will went 3-9 in his debut season before a 7-6 finish in 2022 that saw the Golden Eagles play, and win, the Lending Tree Bowl.
That would end up being the high-water mark for his tenure.
A 4-15 record over the last 19 games, including a 1-6 start to this season, have sparked a change of direction for the program.
Hall was 14-30 in his attempt to rebuild the Golden Eagles program.
In his previous two head coaching stops at the Division II level he went 25-11 at West Alabama (2011-13) and then 31-9 (2014-16) with two semifinal appearances at West Georgia. He won the Gulf South in 2012 and 2013 with West Alabama and the league again at West Georgia in 2015.
He left prior to the 2017 season to become the offensive coordinator at Louisiana, and spent the 2018 season as the associate head coach / tight ends coach at Memphis. His final stop at the major college level before landing the Southern Miss job was a two-year stint as the offensive coordinator at Tulane.
Southern Miss assistant head coach / GM Reed Stringer is expected to be the interim head coach, Adam Rittenberg shares.
It becomes the second head coaching change of the day, joining ECU who parted with with Mike Houston earlier today.
