UTEP plans to hire Bradley Dale Peveto as its next defensive coordinator, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.
Peveto is a native of Beaumont, Texas, who played at SMU and has previous coaching experience in the Lone Star State at Trinity Valley Community College, Stephen F. Austin, Houston and, most recently, Texas A&M amid a 33-year career. He was the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator on Jimbo Fisher's first two Texas A&M staffs, in 2018-19.
Peveto's stint at Houston, as co-defensive coordinator from 1999-02, overlapped with Dana Dimel's 3-year run as U of H's head coach. Dimel compiled an 8-26 record from 2000-02.
Peveto lasted worked as a defensive coordinator in 2003-04 at Middle Tennessee.
Dimel is 5-27 in three years at UTEP, though the 2020 team was by far his best. UTEP went 3-5 on the year and was competitive against every opponent save for Texas and UTSA.
Still, Dimel parted ways with both coordinators following the campaign. βWhile this was a difficult decision to make, I feel it is in the best interest of our football program moving forward," he said last month upon dismissing offensive coordinator Mike Canales and defensive coordinator Mike Cox.
UTEP closed the year 90th in yards per play and 76th in scoring; the 31 points per game allowed were the Miners' fewest since 2014.
