Sources: Jerry Mack emerging as the target in Kennesaw State coaching search (Brian Bohannon)

Kennesaw State is stepping closer to finding its first-ever head coach not named Brian Bohannon, sources tell FootballScoop.

A deep search that's included sitting collegiate head coaches -- ETSU's Tre Lamb among them -- as well as multiple candidates with deep NFL ties is coming into focus.

Jacksonville Jaguars assistant coach Jerry Mack has emerged as the target in the Kennesaw State search FootballScoop has learned. A deal is expected to be finalized today. The Jaguars are expected to release Mack from his contract following today's game vs the Texans.

The Jaguars have dealt with a bevy of injuries amidst a 2-9 season that features a home, AFC South game today against the Houston Texas, but Mack's production with the franchise's running backs has been solid.

Jacksonville has the NFL's No. 11 rushing offense in yards per carry.

A former head coach, Mack engineered a trio of first-place finishes at North Carolina Central, where he took the program to the Celebration Bowl in 2016 and earned HBCU Coach of the Year honors along the way.

Additionally, Mack has helped orchestrate some explosive college offenses -- most recently as a key cog on Josh Heupel's Tennessee Vols staffs before taking the job with the Jaguars.

Mack was the offensive play-caller at Rice for three seasons.

Update >> Kennesaw State has now formally announced the hire of Mack as their new head coach.
