Sources: Jason Eck, New Mexico making bold splash with new G.M. hire (New Mexico)

Jason Eck was nothing short of a tour de force in his rebuild of Idaho football.

Now with his first-ever FBS head coaching post, the former Wisconsin Badger is applying a similar zeal to all facets of his New Mexico program.

Including an impressive new hire for the increasingly important general manager role.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Eck is hiring Beau Davidson away from Memphis to serve as the first general manager in this new era of New Mexico football.

In spending the majority of 2024 at Memphis, Davidson helped the Tigers compile the nation's No. 2-ranked NCAA Transfer Portal class per Rivals and the overall top recruiting class in the American Athletic Conference per the industry standard 247Sports.

That work from Davidson came on the heels of his strong run at Georgia Tech, where as the Yellow Jackets' director of player personnel he helped them sign a top-35 2024 class and be a key contributor in assembling a roster that helped them record back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in a decade.

Sources told FootballScoop that a multiyear deal and a significant pay increase helped pry Davidson away from Ryan Silverfield's Tigers program, which is positioned for continued success in 2025.

Davidson also previously has worked as the DPP at UConn as well as the recruiting director at Texas Tech and Virginia Tech.

A North Texas graduate who was a three-year letterwinner, Davidson also has on-field coaching experience from earlier in his career at three levels: high school, junior college and NCAA.

Eck was hired to replace Bronco Mendenall in late December after Mendenhall exited to take over at Utah State. He led Idaho to three-straight FCS Playoff appearances, twice advancing to the FCS Quarterfinals, and won 26 games in three years.

New Mexico opens its 2025 season Aug. 30 at Michigan. The Lobos play their first home game under Eck a week later as they play host to Idaho State before another non-conference, money game at UCLA.
