Sources: Auburn promoting from within for assistant offensive line coach (Auburn Football Coaching Staff)

Auburn is promoting Kendall Simmons to assistant offensive line coach, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.

The move comes after Joe Bernardi left the post to become Troy's offensive line coach.

Simmons enjoyed one of the greatest careers of any Auburn player, and perhaps the greatest of any Tiger offensive lineman. He won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the SEC's top offensive lineman in 2001, was honored twice as an All-SEC and All-American, and won two SEC West titles.

He was then a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he won two Super Bowls as a member of the yellow and black.

Simmons returned to his alma mater as an analyst in 2019 and retained by two subsequent head coaches, including Hugh Freeze.
