KC Keeler has signed a 4-year contract extension to remain at Sam Houston, Mike Craven of Dave Campbell's Texas Football reported on Wednesday. An SHSU spokesman did not immediately return a message left by FootballScoop.
The extension keeps Keeler in Huntsville through 2026, and its value is "not to exceed" $3.25 million, which equals $812,500 per season. Keeler's contract was set to expire in June.
Keeler, 63, has been at Sam Houston since 2014. Taking over for Willie Fritz, Keeler led the Bearkats to five FCS quarterfinals, three FCS semifinals, and the program's only FCS national title, won in the spring of 2021.
Sam Houston joins Conference USA this season.
Prior to SHSU, Keeler went 86-52 with an FCS national championship at Delaware and 88-21-1 and six Division III title game appearances at Rowan University. The future College Football Hall of Famer stands fourth in college football with 259 career victories.
Sam Houston opens the 2023 campaign Sept. 2 at BYU. The Bearkats' first Conference USA game comes at home against fellow newcomer Jacksonville State on Sept. 28.
