According to a tweet from Pete Thamel this morning, a powerhouse Division III program is adding a former FBS head coach to their head coaching staff.
Thamel shares that former Boston College head coach Jeff Jagodzinski is joining the Wisconsin-Whitewater staff as an offensive assistant.
Coach Jags has has an interesting coaching journey since his time leading the Boston College program.
In 2007 and 2008 he led Boston College to remarkable 11-3 and 9-5 records. After that 2008 season he interviewed for the open coaching job with the New York Jets, despite athletic director Gene DeFillipo warning him not to. A day after interviewing, he was let go at Boston College just two years into his five-year deal. Looking back, Jagodzinksi opened up a few years ago to share that interviewing with the Jets is a decision he regrets.
From there he landed as the offensive coordinator for the Buccaneers under Raheem Morris, but was let go the day before the team's final preseason game.
In 2010 he was hired as the head coach of the Omaha Nighhawks of the short-lived United Football League and went 3-5 before being replaced by CEO-turned-head-coach Joe Moglia (who later went on to lead the Coastal Carolina program).
In 2012 he landed the wide receivers job at Ave Maria (NAIA - FL) before heading back to college football from 2013-2016 under Trent Miles at Georgia State, first as the offensive coordinator before adding the associate head coach title in 2016. Miles was let go in December of 2016, and Jagodzinski landed as the head coach at Notre Dame HS (TN) as the offensive coordinator.
Most recently, Jags coached in the XFL under Bob Stoops with the Dallas Renegades as the offensive line coach.
Before landing his first head coaching job at BC, Jags had been the offensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, and an assistant with the Falcons, with additional stops at East Carolina, LSU, and Northern Illinois.
Landing at UW-Whitewater is actually a return of sorts, as Jagodzinski played his college football there as a fullback, and started his coaching career there as well in 1985.
