Pat White returning to West Virginia in coaching role (Pat White West Virginia)

Pat White has joined Rich Rodriguez's coaching staff as assistant quarterbacks coach and assistant to the head coach, the program announced Wednesday.

White is the second standout from Rodriguez's first stint at WVU to join the Rich Rod 2.0 era, joining former Mountaineer running back Noel Devine

White went 35-8 as West Virginia's starting quarterback, leading the Mountaineers to two Big East championships, a Sugar Bowl victory over Georgia, and a Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma. The first master of the zone read offense, White left WVU as the NCAA record-holder for rushing yards by a quarterback (4,480) while also becoming the first Big East quarterback to accumulate 10,000 passing yards. White accounted for more scrimmage yards (10,529) and touchdowns (103) than any player in Big East history, and boasted a 7-2 record as a starter against AP Top 25 opponents. He was also the first quarterback in FBS history to start and win four consecutive bowl games.

"It's really special to welcome Pat White back to Morgantown as a member of our football coaching staff," Rodriguez said. "He has been involved in some of the biggest wins in program history, and he will be a great presence in our quarterback room. Pat and I have been through so much together, and I am really proud of the quality of coach and mentor to young players that he has become."

A second-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2009, White played professionally until 2015, White deposited coaching stops at Alcorn State, South Florida, Alabama State, and Campbell before joining the LA Chargers staff in 2022, where he worked as an offensive assistant with the club's quarterbacks and wide receivers.
