Ohio State announces Bill O'Brien as offensive coordinator, other moves (Ryan Day)

As first reported last night, Ohio State officially announced Bill O'Brien as its new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Friday.

"I am extremely pleased to be able to add Bill O'Brien to our coaching staff," Ryan Day said. "He brings with him a wealth of knowledge โ€“ and a tremendous amount of success โ€“ at both the NFL and collegiate levels. He is an excellent and experienced offensive coach who has run NFL and Power 5 programs and developed some truly elite players throughout his career. He'll be an excellent teacher and recruiter for us, and he absolutely strengthens our staff."

With the move, Brian Hartline will move to co-offensive coordinator while remaining wide receivers coach. The former Buckeye wideout was promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2023 campaign.

And with O'Brien coming aboard as quarterbacks coach, Ohio State said it's "anticipated" that Corey Dennis will transition to to-be-determined role within the program.

Urban Meyer's son-in-law, Dennis has been with the program since 2015. He spent one season as an intern, two as a GA, two as a senior quality control, and the last four as quarterbacks coach.

The wording in Ohio State's release implies Dennis would be welcomed back to the staff, but also encouraged to find work elsewhere.

With the return of what should be a loaded defense and key transfer portal additions in the backfield, Ohio State will be under tremendous pressure to end its 3-game losing streak to a reloading Michigan and compete, if not win, a national championship in 2024.
