Earlier today we wrote about Neal Brown and West Virginia leadership meeting to discuss his future at the school.
Sources can confirm that the Mountaineers are set to dismiss the sixth-year Mountaineers head coach. 247 is reporting the same.
The decision comes as West Virginia wraps up a 6-6 campaign after getting blown out by Texas Tech last night.
After a 5-7 season in 2022, Brown and the Mountaineers responded to speculation of being on the hot seat with a 9-4 campaign and 4th place Big 12 finish last fall.
As we shared earlier, after that succesful 2023 campaign, Brown was extended a year into 2027, so the school would be obligated to pay 75% of the buyout, which amounts to about $6.5 million.
Brown is high on the wishlist at his alma mater, UMass, who parted ways with Don Brown recently, and sources have shared other athletic directors have made calls to do background work on Brown as well in the event he hit the market.
He leaves West Virginia with an overall record of 37-35 with four bowl trips. He went 35-16 with three straight double-digit win seasons while leading Troy from 2015-2018.
