Sonny Dykes and TCU hired Kendal Briles away from Arkansas as the Horned Frogs new offensive coordinator after losing Garrett Riley to Clemson's offensive coordinator vacancy.
During his nine seasons on the staff at Baylor working under his dad, Kendal rose from coaching the inside receivers to wide receivers and pass game coordinator before being promoted to offensive coordinator and quarterbacks for two seasons in 2015-16 and led some of the most exciting offenses in college football during that stretch.
When his time in Waco came to an end, Kendal spent one-year play calling stints at FAU, Houston, and Florida State before landing with Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks the past three seasons.
He inherits a strong Horned Frogs offense that has very high expectations coming off their loss to Georgia in the national title game where they finished the year among the top 10 scoring offenses in college football at nearly 39 points per game.
While fans will recognize some similarities in scheme between the 2022 and 2023 offenses, their style will be a bit different than the offense that Riley fielded last year, so when asked what people can expect from a stylistic perspective, one word came to mind for Briles.
Production.
"Stylistically, I would say production," he told reporters.
"I don't really care when people talk about putting your stamp on a program, or any of that. Winning football games is what it's all about. I don't care if we win 3-2."
"Obviously we expect to be really good on offense, but we want to be able to be a productive offense. How do we do that? By taking advantage of what the defense gives us, whether that is throwing the ball or running the ball, I really don't care."
"At the end of the day it's about winning football games. We're going to play with tempo. We're going to be aggressive. We're going to run the football. We're going to take shots down the field. So however those things happen, and in which order, as long as it counts up to having more [points] than them we're all good."
