Lane Peterson of Kaukaunee HS (WI) joined us Thursday to share some ideas on practice structure, game planning, and staffing.
Peterson has the unique perspective of taking things he learned during his time as a staffer at Northern Illinois and at Florida Atlantic in Lane Kiffin's first season, and adapting that to the high school level. At FAU, Peterson worked as a graduate assistant in the video department, and at NIU his role was as a defensive quality control intern.
What he came away with from those experiences are ideas on practice structure, game planning, and staff structure that we can all take something from.
Here are a few things I took away from Peterson's talk:
- Info sheets for the press box for your coordinators to digest during halftime
- What Peterson believes is one of the greatest epidemics in football (and it's something well within all of our control)
- A way to really break down your play calling situations to make sure you're using your time wisely
- Questions worth asking yourself during the opponent scouting process
- Why you should be putting your players in very specific game situations in practice
- Formation chart to help with game planning process
